Pictures of Muhammad PBUH on Wikipedia

February 3, 2008 / by zuhair250

Wikipedia has placed pictures of Prophet Muhammad PBUH on their website. It is indeed very painful for Muslims. I wonder why the west keeps on comming up with such ideas like that that to keep on hurting the feelings of the Muslims of the world. It looks like they have been licensed to tease us. I would request all you guys to sign the following petition so that these pictrures are removed from wikipedia. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/2/removal-of-the-pics-of-muhammad-from-wikipedia>

     Thanks in advance.

"The west" is not coming up with an idea to hurt you.  It is not the fault of people of other religions, or of no religion, that YOUR religion forbids YOU from looking at certain images.  That does not mean that the rest of the world should change just to satisfy you, for whatever reason. Furthermore, the images are not made in a disrespectful way (meaning disrepectful as any general person from any culture would interpret).  They are merely historical documents presented in an historical context.  If your religion forbids you to look at images of the Prophet, then you must take personal responsibility to avoid looking at images of the Prophet rather than forcing others, who have no such restriction, to change on your behalf.

@Jacob Heringman (could not reply directly courtersy of bugster)

If you follow your religion completely, you wont be saying this. Did you read the bible? It wont allow you to hurt anybodys feelings. secondly, it is un ethical to paint funny pictures of any Prophet of Allah. But for that, you have to start respecting other religions. So that others respect you.

I hate those people who hated the  islam. Respect is most important for

    all the religion.

@zuhair250: I do not have a religion so your comment does not apply to me.  I have never read the bible as I am not a christian.  However, expecting someone to never hurt someone's feelings, as you mention in your post, is an impossible task.  No person can do that.

@Abid: Why do you think I have no restrictions in my life?  On what are you basing that belief?

I think that cartoon pictures are more teasing to the muslims if even there were some such pictures that explain a true research of historical facts about any prophet based on imaginations and projecting a spiritual goodness like there are the pictures of Abu Ben Adhem Jesus and many more, that always generates a ritual feeling and visual aid as it is used in the modern teaching methods it is extremely effective i think that if it is used in religeous teachings it can be more effective. It is just my own idea i am not quite sure that what the most of Muslim scholars think about it.

@ Mr. Jacob: Are you saying that restrictions in Islam should apply to Muslims only? True, only to certain extent. Say Islam forbids Muslims from stepping on the Koran, so does that means non Muslims can step on the Koran? Man, this is not about the so-called restrictions, this is about respect. It does not matter whether you are believer or not, do not ever show disrespectful towards any religions or beliefs. You claim yourself as a non believer a.k.a. atheist, what would you feel if somebody openly depicts atheism as something that may annoy or disturb you? If you'd feel offended, congratulations because then you knew how's the Muslims feel when people do such thing to them. If you feel nothing, I must say you are admitting that you don't believe in restrictions and you are thinking that this 'respect' thingy is a crap. And why must the non Muslims bother to draw the image of Prophet Muhammad in the first place, even for Christ's sake? The Muslims don't even bother to draw Jesus's image when learning history because we know it is pretty unnecessary. It's not that we are going to meet him (Prophet Muhammad) anywhere in the near future (at least in this life) so it is clearly pointless to have his graphical depictions openly displayed, even in the internet.

I think HALFEY's comment is more than enough. Thanks for such a great reply, :-)
